Educational equity means that every student has access to rigorous and relevant instruction and supports that will lead to ambitious outcomes for graduation, college and career, and life. Now, more than ever, during these unprecedented times, is the perfect time to renew our equity-based mindset and focus on “learning opportunities” rather than “learning gaps.” During this interactive session special education teachers will dive deeper into asset-based teaching, structures to engaging every student, and instructional strategies to include exceptional learners. By exploring an equity-based mindset, together, we'll deepen our practice to ensure our schools are more welcoming and inclusive for our most vulnerable students so every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Dynamic Collaboration to Reach ALL Students
"We are stronger together," is more than just a fancy tagline. What is teamwork? Effective teams build a sense of unity to enable efficient movement towards targets, camaraderie to overcome obstacles, and sustain long-term success. Let's A.C.T. today: apply innovative teaching practices, collaborate with intentionality, and teach with special sauce to increase access for ALL learners.
Social Emotional Learning as a Lever for Equity
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) equips students with competencies to lead productive and healthy lives. When the entire school community commits to promoting students’ social and emotional learning, we create a safe, equitable, and engaging school climate, so each student acquires the essential knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary for interpersonal and life success. To remove barriers that limit access and prevent some students from developing social and emotional competencies, we must apply an equity lens to SEL to increase inclusivity, access, and support the development of the whole child. Explore three practices critical to supporting Social Emotional Learning and Equity: 1) integration of SEL with instruction 2) creating caring relationships and classroom culture 3) supporting culturally competent and equity-literate educators.
